Paige and Virginia's First UVA Football Game

Since Paige and Virginia decided not to play softball or any other sport this fall we had our weekends open!  We decided to take advantage of one of those open weekends and go see a UVA football game.  We went to see them play William and Mary.  We decided to just make it a day trip since it was an afternoon game, so we drove down that morning, had lunch, did some shopping, showed the girls around grounds, went to the game, had dinner and drove home.  It was ridiculously hot that day, but we still had a really good time.

As we were walking through grounds on our way to the bookstore the girls decided to run down into the amphitheater and play on the stage.  I see Paige in the picture on the stage, but I don't know where Virginia was.  And, of course, Miller Hall in the background.

Ben had to teach the girls about the Whisper Wall.  If you sit at either end and whisper into the wall the person on the other side can hear you clearly.  It's pretty cool and the girls had fun playing there.
We made it to Scott Stadium!  The giveaway for that game was the bags that the girls are holding in this picture.  They look like UVA football jerseys.  And to confuse people they're both wearing shirts that say, "VIRGINIA."  Paige is in the pink, though.
We took a walk all the way around the stadium before the game and had to check out the wall of fame.  Here are our twins, Paige and Virginia, with the plaques for the Barber twins, Tiki and Ronde, who both went on to have stellar NFL careers after graduating in 1997.
And here is Virginia and Paige with Thomas Jones' plaque.  Thomas Jones is my age (exactly 3 months older than me, actually) and played for UVA for the 4 years that I was there.  No, I did not know him. :) But I did watch him play running back in most of his games there.
As I said before it was HOT the day we went to the game.  Here the girls are trying to cool down, so they were playing with their heads under the bleacher so they were in the shade and using water bottles to cool themselves.  We took several trips out to the concourse to get out of the sun during the game.

GO HOOS!
Another attempt to cool down- snow cones!
After the game, which UVA won, we walked back through grounds to The Corner to grab some dinner before driving home.  Paige and Virginia decided this was a good time to go running up the lawn.  I wonder if some day we'll see them walking down the lawn in black robes and mortarboard...
It was a wonderful day trip to the Academical Village and we're so glad we were able to do it!  The girls have already asked if we can go to another game next year.  We'll be playing that one by ear since we know for sure that we're going to the Battle at Bristol in September to see UT and VT battle it out in front of the biggest college football audience ever!
