27 Months Old and Weekend Fun

Last Monday Paige and Virginia turned 27 months old! Two and a quarter years old. They are really growing up. One of these days we're going to have to start thinking about things like potty training and toddler beds. We're already getting to the point where they don't want to sit in their high chairs for meals anymore. The only problem is that if they sit in the normal chairs they keep getting up and don't eat much. We're working on figuring out what to do about that. Here they are in the recliner just like (almost) every month.

Last week we had a lot of rain on Thursday and Friday. Thursday when I was getting the girls ready to take them to daycare I made sure I had them dressed appropriately for the weather. They wore their rain coats, their rain boots and their baseball caps. Here are Paige and Virginia standing outside the door at daycare, waiting for me to let them in. After some more rain Friday morning it cleared up and the sun came out. We decided to take advantage of the nice weather and ate lunch on the deck.

Saturday we actually had a day with no plans, so we were looking for something to do. There were a few different fall festivals going on around the area, so we just had to decide which one we wanted to check out. We decided to go to the Fall for Fairfax KidsFest at our local government center. It was a lot of fun! They had food, rides, a petting zoo, pony rides, moonbounces, entertainment- all kinds of stuff. We had no idea what to expect going in, but we're so glad we went.

The first thing we did was going to the petting zoo. The girls love animals so we thought they would love it. They refused to pet any of the animals! I think we did finally get them to pet a rabbit, but that might be it. Ben and I got to pet donkeys, goats, sheep, cows, bunnies and a tortoise. Here are Paige and Virginia waiting to get into the petting zoo.

After the petting zoo we walked around to check out the rides. There looked to be some rides that we thought the girls would enjoy, so we decided to get them all day passes for the rides instead of individual tickets for each ride. That was definitely the way to go- especially considering how much the girls enjoyed all the rides! The first thing they went on was a moon bounce. It was awesome. There were several different areas in it. It had a slide, an obstacle course and then some other space where they could just play around. Paige and Virgina loved it. I kept losing sight of them, but as soon as I'd find them I'd see their smiling faces and knew they were having fun. Virginia in the moonbounce.

When they finally came out of the moonbounce we decided to check out the trackless train ride. We went and stood in line for that and rode it around the fair. Here's Paige on the train.
And Virginia on the train.
By the time we finished with that we were getting hungry. We got some food and found a place to sit down and eat. We got each of the girls a hot dog and Virginia immediately picked hers up, bun and all, and started to eat it like an adult. We don't give them hot dogs like that at home, so we were surprised to see her do that. Paige picked up just the hot dog and ate that, then went back for the bun. They also had some french fries and water and then it was off to more rides.

There were several rides that the girls went on. First was a ride where they sat in dragons and went around in a big circle.
Then there was the ferris wheel. Paige and Virginia are in the yellow car having a great time.
And the other dragon. This one was kind of like the Berserker ride at Kings Dominion, except this one didn't go nearly as fast to go anywhere near upside down. The girls loved it. Another mom was on the ride with her daughter and friend and when she got off she told me she was very impressed with how well my girls did on the ride all by themselves. I was so proud!
Last, but not least, the Carousel. I got to ride this one with them, although you can barely see me in this picture. I sat in the middle to make sure the Virginia and Paige stayed on their horses. They didn't make any moves to get off of them, so I probably didn't need to be there, but I'm glad I was just in case.
Walking with Mommy on our way back inside.
We went inside and watched part of a Science show, but the girls were getting really tired, so we decided to just head home. They definitely were tired- they fell asleep in the car on the way home and then took a good nap once we got home.

Awhile ago we bought a backpack for the girls thinking we'd use it when we go out of town, and we have used it but not very often. Well, the girls found it recently and are having a great time playing with it. How grown up does Paige look wearing it?
And doesn't Virginia look sweet?
Sunday evening my parents came over for awhile. Paige wasn't feeling well, so she spent most of the time curled up on the couch either with me or my mom. My parents brought the girls new Elmo t-shirts. The girls LOVE them! They put them on immediately and kept looking at their shirts and saying, "Elmo." It even cheered Paige up for awhile.
Virginia had a great time running around while Dee chased her.
Virginia also enjoyed when Dude took her broom and started sweeping her feet.
We went and picked up Chipotle for dinner. The girls each ended up with their own container of guacamole and were eating it by itself. Paige was at least using her spoon, but Virginia opted to just use her finger.
We had a great weekend. The only downside was that Paige spiked a fever Sunday night. Thankfully it came down with medicine and was gone Monday morning. It did go up a little during the day on Monday, but it came back down on its own and she seems to be doing fine.
