Trip to the Zoo

One Friday we were supposed to have beautiful weather so I made plans with a couple of friends to go to the zoo with them and their sets of twins.  During the week before we were planning on going it started to look like the trip may not happen.  First Laura had to back out because she had to take her husband to the dentist and then it looked like the girls and I weren't going to be able to go because of a plumbing problem.  The night before we were supposed to go to the zoo Virginia looked at the ceiling during dinner and noticed water spots.  She didn't know they were water spots, but Ben and I did.  Turns out we had a leak behind my sink in our master bathroom.  Thankfully we were able to get a plumber to come out Friday morning and he left in time for us to still get to the zoo.  We met Kim and her girls- Sydney and Peyton- at the zoo for a couple of hours.

Since it was a beautiful day there were LOTS of people at the zoo.  So many that by the time we got there (about 11am) there were no parking spaces left!  We managed to find street parking, but it was a 2 hour parking space, so we had to rush through the zoo.  We beat Kim, Sydney and Peyton there by a little bit, so we walked around a little before meeting up with them.

Virginia and Paige with the Andean Bear statue.  Paige wanted the bear cub to wear her bow.
This was the view we got of one of the pandas.
But we saw a panda, so that made Paige and Virginia happy.
After seeing the panda we met up with Kim, Sydney and Peyton and walked around.  We saw the great apes, an orangutan hanging out on a platform high in the air, and then we went to see the invertebrates.  None of us had ever been in the invertebrate exhibit before, but it was pretty cool.  We saw lots of fish, snails, even an octopus!  Then we headed down to the big cats before heading back up the hill to our cars.

This tiger was really active.  He was walking along the wall and stopped for a drink.
I love this picture of the 4 girls with the tiger right in the middle.
Before we left we attempted to get a picture of the four girls together.  My girls were hot and tired and all they wanted was popcorn- not to get their picture taken.  At least Kim's girls looked at the camera. :)
It was a great time at the zoo, even though it was a quick trip.  It was wonderful to see Kim and meet her girls.  Too bad they're getting ready to move out of the area, I think more get togethers would have been fun.
